Professional development is the process of ongoing education and training that develops skills which assist a person in career advancement. The UTEP Professional Development Center (PDC) believes that professional development is best achieved by not only exposing students to workshops, conferences, and lectures, but by supporting programs and organizations which foster student activism and involvement.
Workshops
A great way to gain hands-on experience and professional assistance with traditional and innovative professional development activities is to participate in a professional development workshop. The Professional Development Center and the Business College Council are constantly sponsoring engaging workshops that challenge and stimulate the professional mind.
Lectures and Forums
Whether you are listening to seasoned authorities or promising up-and-coming professionals, a lecture or forum is a perfect outlet to hear unique opinions, research, experiences, lessons, and debates of the professional/business world. Feel free to get engaged or sit back and take notes.
Conferences
Nothing matches the interest and information raised about any given topic than a well-planned and well-staged conference. Conferences, by nature, usually bring prominent guest speakers to discuss highly-regarded topics to a large central stage of presentation. Conferences are a great networking resource.
Professional Development Center
The epitome of professional development: The Professional Development Center. Located in Room 104, the PDC organizes activities, projects, conferences, workshops, lectures, and events to stimulate professional development. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments related to professional development, please do not hesitate to stop by the Professional Development Center and speak with a staff member.
Student Organizations
Arguably the best way for a student to interact with students that share similar professional interests ambitions is to join a student organization. Fastened by the Business College Council, the College of Business has many student organizations, based on fields ranging from accounting to economic development. For more information, visit the “Join an Org.” page.
