How Do You Deal With Finals?
Thursday, November 26th, 2009

The pressure of final exams builds up as the UTEP College of Business readies for the end of the semester. How do you handle the week before and of finals?

Personally, energy drinks and six hours of sleep a day (no more, no less) does it for me. I find that spending 30 minutes to an hour planning keeps me organized and ready to take on the week. I determine exactly what material I need to study for before I jump into the books and notes.

What “finals week” tips and stories do you have to share?

Check out and RSVP for the official Finals Week event!

Ben Casnocha: A recap
Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Ben Casnocha visited the UTEP College of Business to discuss entrepreneurship and his life experiences on Friday, November 20, 2009.

Presenting in front of approximately seventy students, Casnocha discussed the value of thinking differently and escaping the “textbook approach to life.”

Casnocha presented three main ideas: entrepreneurship is more of a life idea than a business one, an entrepreneur must be committed to personal growth, and entrepreneurs do stuff.

The first idea highlighted things that entrepreneurs have one thing in common: optimism, persistence, and side projects. The second idea stated an entrepreneur must emphasize strengths over weaknesses and consistently work on self-improvement. Casnocha believes working on soft assets, such as knowledge, reputation, and connections, is the most valuable way for young people to spend their time. The third idea stated entrepreneurs do stuff.

Casnocha concluded that thinking entrepreneurially would pay off.

“As you keep splashing paint onto your blank white canvas, someday a unique painting will emerge,” Casnocha said. “And since it will be truly your own, I think it will be a beautiful creation.”

Meet the CoBA Collegiate Senator
Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Student Government Association (SGA) mission is to represent and serve all students attending UTEP. SGA is the official voice through which students’ opinions and concerns are expressed by acting as the students’ representative before local, state, and national administrators. It ensures student participation in the University decision-making process, helps defend the rights of each student, and works toward the advancement of the University Community.

Hello CoBA students, I’m the Collegiate Business Senator: Nadia Ramirez; please feel free to contact me regarding any issues that you may have about your college and the university as a whole.

Some topics touched by students are usually special event ideas, committees or questions on how to get involved, and organizations such as fundraising.

Also SGA counts with six Ad-Hoc committees where any student can be part of and experience the university involvement. These committees are:

  • Academic Affairs
  • Excel
  • Special Events
  • Traffic
  • Committee for Campus Quality (CCQ)

We also count with standing committees where students can get a deeper feeling of the organization and structure of SGA. These include:

  • Student Application Review Committee
  • Documents Reviews
  • Appropriations

I invite all of you to join and take part of this great association that will contribute not only to your professional experience, but also to you as an individual and as a “miner”.

Remember that the future lies in the past and this is our chance… GO MINERS!

If you have any further questions please go ahead and contact me to my email at nramirez5@miners.utep.edu. Regarding SGA you can visit us and keep updated at www.studentaffairs.utep.edu/sga.
